Concert by the Sea is a live album by pianist Erroll Garner that was released by Columbia in 1955. It sold over a million dollars worth of retail copies by 1958 and remains one of the best-selling jazz albums. In partnership with the Erroll Garner Jazz Project, Sony Legacy, the Magic Shop Studio, and the late renowned jazz pianist Geri Allen, the performance was remastered and released as “The Complete Concert by the Sea.”

The album was nominated for a GRAMMY and NAACP Image Award-nominated 3-CD box set, also available in vinyl. “The Complete Concert by the Sea” was launched by the Erroll Garner Jazz Project based in New York City. I joined the EGJP team to assist in the branding efforts of the organization. The creative direction was extended to the design of a variety of promotional materials.

Garner’s lively spirit was the inspiration for the bold and energetic design. The original1955 album cover was conceptually re-shot and transformed to express a modern feel. The inspiration for the project was sourced by unearthed archival materials including photographs, previous artwork, and of course the music.

The Erroll Garner Jazz Project will invigorate
the cultural and musical legacy of Erroll Garner
and support African American community-
based jazz initiatives.

EGJP MISSION STATEMENT

Design: We developed a logo signature that translated to materials including business cards, GRAMMY invites, t-shirts, and print pieces.
Typographic treatments were a spin off the original album cover and had to be versatile in order to implemented across diverse materials.
